2019-2020 USUSA officers inaugurated
Utah State University welcomed new members of the 2019-2020 Student Body and campus officers, both local and regional, on Friday.
Jaren Hunsaker, the now former Utah State University Student Body President, opened the meeting with words of welcome and gratitude for serving the people of Utah State.
“I was clearing out my office and that brought a lot of emotion I didn’t know I had for this day. This day is very special” said Hunsaker.
Hunsaker said to the incoming officers, “take my advice to listen, and be slow to react and say yes to as many opportunities as you feel comfortable you can do. Those opportunities will help you grow, push you to the edge, but because of that, you will become more prepared.”
Hunsaker then introduced Dr. James Morales, the Vice President of Student Affairs. He shared his story of coming to Utah State University and said there is no where in the world he’d rather be than here at this university.
“I fell in love with Utah State very quickly. Utah State is truly known as a student centered university. And I had always dreamed of being apart of this school. This is a very special place” said Morales.
Morales spoke about the qualities of heroes and encouraged the incoming officers to have hero like qualities such as lifting people up and be willing to sacrifice.
“I encourage you to work towards becoming like these heroes (referring to the outgoing officers) and as you do so you will have a wonderful, wonderful year” said Morales.
After his remarks, Sami Ahmed, the new Student Body President was sworn in by Hunsaker. Part of his duty as president is to promise to uphold the student code and policies at Utah State University, the constitution of the Utah State University Student Association and to carry out the duties and responsibilities of his respective charter and office.
Ahmed concluded the evening with his first speech as USUSA president. He said, “Let’s go find something wrong for us, make it right and make sure others aren’t going through it”
