3,000 students to receive free tickets for NIT game
Thanks to an anonymous donor, 3,000 Utah State students will see the Aggies play their first-round National Invitational Tournament game for free.
The donor contacted the USU Athletics Department Tuesday morning to purchase 3,000 tickets for students. Tickets to the Wednesday game against Hawaii cost $4 for students and $14 for adults.
“We have been collaborating and we’re trying to figure out the most effective way to distribute tickets,” said director of Student Activities Tiffany Evans.
Each college will receive 150 tickets to give to their students and about 1,950 tickets will be given Wednesday on a first-come first-served basis.
“We are starting [Wednesday] with a distribution, starting at 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. or until we run out of tickets,” Evans said.
Students will be able to receive two tickets with their USU ID card. The tickets will be handed out in front of the Taggart Student Center Ballroom.
“We hope that students will take advantage and take this opportunity to support this basketball team,” she said. “What a wonderful opportunity to have another home basketball game, it’s been so much fun this entire season.”
Evans said that as of Tuesday, about 500 students had already purchased tickets to the game.
“We appreciate their support and all their support of Aggie basketball,” she said. “If they would like to come with their ticket, we would be happy to give them some more tickets as well.”
Every seat in the Spectrum for the game is reserved. Evans said students who purchased tickets in advance would be ensured the best possible seating.
Students picking their tickets up at the Ballroom between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. will receive free Aggie Ice Cream, Athletics Vice President Tyler Olsen said.
Olsen also said he encourages students to wear a piece of tape around their right index finger to “show unity and support for the basketball team.” Athletic tape will be available for students at the game for those who wish to tape their finger.
“We’re just very thankful for the opportunity that we have with this donation,” Evans said. “We think it’s a great opportunity and hope to just fill the Spectrum.”
