5 must-play video games for college students
Video games are no secret to most of the world in this day and age, however, it is difficult to find games that pique one’s interest among the tens of thousands of games available. What makes a particular game good can vary from person to person and many disagree on which are the best games of all time. To help out, below is a list of semi-recent games that incorporate a variety of aspects to a substantial level such as, design, graphics, and story.
- The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
This game was released in 2015 and has stunning graphics, even compared to games releasing this year. The storyline puts the player in the shoes of a Witcher named Geralt, a monster hunter notoriously known throughout the continent. The goal of the player is to find a child from an ancient prophecy and fight off an evil force known as the Wild Hunt. This magic-and-swordplay style game has multiple endings and choices made throughout the game interact with the outcome of storylines. This game is perfect for medieval geeks and all gamers alike.
- Ori and the Blind Forest
For all of the platforming fans out there, this game is a must have. “Ori and the Blind Forest” is about an orphaned creature who tasks themself with saving the forest after a catastrophic event brought darkness and drought. This two-dimensional game challenges the player with puzzles and the responsibility of saving one’s own game by managing “soul links” which are found throughout the world. With upgrades and light combat mechanics, and not to mention beautiful graphics, just about any player can pick this game up and enjoy themselves.
- Fortnite
The odds are that almost anyone with a light hand in pop culture is aware of this new and trending game released summer of 2017. The cartoony art style and ability to build bases, walls, and stairs creates a game that is much more than a typical battle royale game. There is good reason this game took off to become, without a doubt, the biggest game of 2018 thus far. Fun game play and nearly endless replayability has players coming back for more. On top of all of this, it is free to play with no pay-to-win features. 100 players parachute into a map where they then find, loot, and build forts, as well as combat each while the playable areas of the map shrinks — if the player is caught outside of it, they take damage until they are eliminated. Only one player, duo, or squad of four can claim victory royale in the end.
- Furi
A game with a story that is only really explained at the ending, “Furi” is a 3d/2d game with numerous bosses that challenge the player as they try to escape from a prison. A mysterious man frees the player from their cell and guides the player through each level, sharing backgrounds and telling stories as the game progresses. A fantastic game with a satisfying ending, this game has unique art and a soundtrack to die for.
- The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition
What is not to love about “Skyrim?” A game that is easily in the video game hall of fame and renowned as one of the absolute best games ever created, it just got better with the new remaster. An improvement to the game engine and graphics, “Skyrim” improved on their tried and true game and made it an even better experience. The game is similar to “Witcher” concerning medieval theme and magic, but boasts a looting system and customization options that is seen in few other games not produced by Bethesda Game Studios. In this game, the player is the dragonborn. A wielder of a long since dead power that can absorb the souls of dragons. “Skyrim” is a game with unlimited hours of play available and near infinite ways to approach any given situation.
These are some of the best games for a wide audience of players in recent history. Other games includes classics such as “Legend of Zelda” or the original Mario Bros.
