Salt Lake City

5 things to do in Salt Lake City

Need something to do this weekend? How about exploring Salt Lake City? Here are five places to check out:

1. City Creek Mall

Located just across from Temple Square at the heart of the city, this two-story mall crosses several city blocks including a major road and trolley line. City Creek offers over 100 name-brand stores such as Vans, Athleta, Apple and Disney. Also included is a large food court and surrounding restaurants like Costa Vida, Kneaders and The Cheesecake Factory. It’s a great shopping and dining destination.

2. Gateway Mall

Gateway Mall is a large outdoor mall in downtown Salt Lake City. It has brands such as Bastille, Victoria’s Secret, Game Stop, and Bath & Body Works. Beyond this, it houses a mix of savory and sweet restaurants and food destinations including steak houses, Brazilain grills, burger joints, as well as doughnut and sweet rolled taco shop. There are frequent events including live music and art festivals in its many outdoor spaces. It’s a great place to kill a few hours.

3. The Leonard Museum

Based on the brilliant mind of Italian Renaissance figure Leonardo de Vinci, the Leonard museum located downtown is a unique place that mixes art with the exploration of science. Interactive exhibits allow visitors to explore firsthand the inner workings of technology and engineering problem-solving. Currently, their lead exhibit is on the notorious volcanic eruption that doomed the Roman city of Pompeii.

4. Clark Planetarium

The Clark Planetarium is the perfect place to further understand the science behind the world around us. With exhibits about the earth and deep space, as well as feature films documenting space exploration and underwater dives, it is a fun, easy way to spend a day learning in a nontraditional setting.

5. Big Cottonwood Canyon

Around 25 miles outside of Salt Lake City is the beautiful Big Cottonwood Canyon, home to hiking and mountain biking trails, rock climbing summits and ski slopes. The 15-mile route is free and open year-round. It’s perfect for a relaxing drive or a weekend of outdoor adventures.
