62 miles down, 38 to go

A participant nearly reaches the 62 mile point of the 10th annual Bear 100, a 100-mile race through the Bear River Mountains. The race began 6 a.m. Friday at the mouth of Dry Canyon. The course climbed and dropped thousands of feet before ending at Fish Haven, Idaho. The 99 contestants ran through the night, only stopping for a few minutes at aid stations along the way.

There was a 36-hour cut-off time, but many runners made it under 30 hours with a winning time of just over 20 hours.

The white line in the photo is light from the runner’s headlight under the camera’s long exposure.
