Utah Statesman: Why did you come to USU?

Carson Guy: The engineering program is good, it’s cheap, and I love the canyon, it’s only a five-minute jog away. It’s beautiful, even in the winter when it’s freaking cold.

US: How do you feel about revenge?

Guy: It’s a fun process, but only on good friends.

US: What is the funniest practical joke you have ever been involved in?

Guy: Once I stole one of my friend’s video games so he put a dead squirrel in my car. So I stole his car and parked it in a swamp. I helped him get it out though.

US: Do you have any hobbies?

Guy: Climbing. I’ve done a lot of gym climbing and all-sports climbing. I’ve also climbed in Southern Utah canyons. I have a harness now, so hopefully by summer I’ll be doing more high wall climbing.

US: What is the biggest risk you have ever taken?

Guy: I jumped off a 65-foot cliff into a lake. I put my arms out and they got slapped pretty hard. I had bruises for a couple of weeks.

US: What are you scared of?

Guy: Being a failure in life.

US: What is one word that describes you?

Guy: Scrumtrulescent.

US: What is your most prized possession?

Guy: Family.

US: What is your life motto?

Guy: Have fun and don’t worry about anything.

US: What color is the majority of the clothes in your closet?

Guy: White button-up shirts from the Deseret Industries.

US: What decorates your bedroom?

Guy: In the corner I have a topographical map of Mt. Everest. Above my bed I have a map of Hawaii and I also have a picture of Steve Martin. You just can’t get enough of that guy.

US: Would you ever climb Mt. Everest?

Guy: I’d like to, but I’d rather climb K2. I’ve been reading “Into Thin Air” recently, and quoting passages to my roommates about the Mt. Everest disaster. It’s pretty cool.

US: Does reading the book make you feel a little hesitant about the prospects of climbing Everest?

Guy: Heck no. It just makes it that much more exciting.

US: Have you ever had a speeding ticket?

Guy: I got my first ticket this summer. Everyone in my family except my mom has had two or three tickets so I’ve always rubbed my clean record in their face, so when I got my ticket I didn’t tell anyone. I went to court by myself, paid the ticket, and took this class on-line to get rid of the points. I thought I was home free, but then they mailed the paperwork to my house.

US: What would you say has been the best day of your life?

Guy: When I was in Tucsany last semester I went to this party. There were tons of people. Everyone was outgoing and talkative and there was this guitarist playing Sublime. I know it sounds kind of Kumbaya, but we were all singing along and it was really cool.

US: If there were a theme song for your life what would it be?

Guy: “Stir it Up” by Bob Marley.

US: What would be the ideal career for you?

Guy: I would like to be forced into early retirement. Or I would want to just climb anywhere – most specifically Thailand.-amcconkie@cc.usu.edu
