LETTE: Be happy – it’s basketball season
To the editor:
Am I the only one tired of hearing negative comments connected to Utah State’s sports teams? Can Aggie fans ever find anything good to say about the games? Does anyone remember football season? The team had to beg people to attend, but all anyone could say was “Our football team isn’t very good, but just wait until basketball season!” Now basketball season is here and all we hear about is – what’s that? Not how amazing it was that Jaycee Carroll lifted us down the stretch or how Chaz Spicer made a clutch 3-pointer or how tense the entire Spectrum was when it looked like our Aggies could pull it out against Boise State. No, we hear about how – omigosh – offensive Aggies fans are! (I certainly hope these poor, tender souls never attend a professional sporting event. I’ve been to Jazz games where the entire arena booed the referees before the game even started!)
Why can’t we discuss how good the team is doing or how exciting the game was? If you’re going to a basketball game, why are you so worried about what the person next to you is chanting? Shouldn’t you be paying attention to what’s going on down on the court?
I’m glad visiting teams don’t like to come to the Spectrum because of the fans. I’m proud to be part of the Sixth Man. I go to the games to be entertained and enjoy good basketball. Fans are going to do what they are going to do and if that’s not your way of supporting the team, then find your own way or just stay home. If you don’t want to be offended, then I suggest going to football games. As sad as this is, you’d be hard pressed to find anyone very enthusiastic – I mean, offensive – there. To the team, I want to say a big thank you for being great representatives of Utah State and making us real fans proud to be Aggies. Keep up the amazing work!
