Top entertainment of 2006
As the year comes to a close, it’s time to look back at the great things 2006
has left us in the world of movies, music and television.
Movies
Top 2006 movie hits were: “Pirates of the Caribbean,” earning $422,226,046 asof this week according to movies.com.
Disney/Pixar’s “Cars” came in second with $244,082,982, and “X-Men: The Last Stand” came in third.
“I just thought [X-Men III] was creative and unexpected,” said Erin Penrod, a sophomore in speech communications.
Natalie Jessie, a freshman in elementary education, said she liked “Cars” because it was funny. And although she said she doesn’t normally like country music, she loves Rascal Flatts’ song, “Life is a Highway,” the theme from the movie.
“The Prestige” was also another popular movie among USU students.
Kenny Turley, a pre-med freshman, iked “The Prestige” because it kept him
guessing.
Another new movie, playing off the local favorite from a couple years ago,”Napoleon Dynamite,” was “Nacho Libre.”
“Nacho Libre is not like any other movie. Those guys come up with stuff no one else does,” said Josh Corbridge, a senior in exercise science, who said he loves the movie.
Some music award shows for 2006 will be shown in 2007, such as the Golden Globes, to be shown Jan. 15.
The Golden Globe nominees will be posted online on Dec. 15.
Music
The Billboard music awards were given on Dec. 4 and were presented by Fox.
In the Billboard music awards the top albums were: Nickle back with “All the Right Reasons,” the soundtrack of “High School Musical,” and Carrie Underwood’s “Some Hearts.”
Top country albums were: Rascal Flatts’ “Me and My Gang,” Carrie Underwood with “Some Hearts” and Kenny Chesney with “The Road and the Radio.”
Top R&B nominations were: Mary J. Blige’s “The Breakthrough,” T.I.’s “King” and Jamie Foxx with “Unpredictable.”
The top rap albums of the year were: Lil’ Wayne with “Tha Carter II,” Eminem with “Curtain Call: The Hits” and T.I.’s “King.”
The top rock albums were: Nickleback with “All the Right Reasons,” James Blunt’s “Back to Bedlam” and Red Hot Chili Peppers’ “Stadium Arcadium.”
According to popular vote on Facebook.com, the top five music artists for USU students were Jack Johnson, Dashboard Confessional, Coldplay, Death Cab for Cutie and Fall Out Boy.
Television
Top television shows of 2006 are ranked on tv.com.
The top three shows are: NBC’s “Heroes,” CBS’s “Dexter” and FOX’s “Prison Break.”
Other shows, more popular at the beginning of the year, have moved down. Some of these are “24,” ranked No. 11; “Grey’s Anatomy” at No. 23 and “CSI” at No. 29.
