BLOTTER: Police news from the campus and community

August 15: Police responded to assist with a fight in progress. Before police arrived, the individuals had left the area.

Police observed a suspicious incident on the HPER Field. Police are investigating.

Police responded to assist Logan City officers with a noise complaint. The noise was coming from a house party and the owner of the home was cited for a disorderly house. The party ended.

August 16:

Police responded to the gravel pits and open field north of the USU Trailer Courts on a report that individuals were firing guns in that location. Logan City police and North Park police assisted in the search, but no individuals with weapons were found.

August 17:

Police responded to Lundstrom Hall on a report that parts of the roof were falling down. It was discovered that two pieces of trim had fallen, possibly because of the wind.

The USU Hazardous Device Unit was called to assist the Cache County Sheriff’s Office with a suspicious briefcase. The briefcase was X-rayed and determined not to contain anything hazardous.

Police responded to Snow Hall on a report that a group of students had been on the roof. When police arrived, everyone had left the roof. However, the latch that secures the roof access had been broken. Police secured the roof with a padlock and chain.

Police responded to the east side of the Natural Resources Building on a report of two men doing tricks on skateboards. When police arrived, the officer also observed the two doing tricks. A name check showed that both of the skaters had been warned twice before.

August 18:

Police responded to the Military Science Building on a smell of smoke report. Upon arrival, two problems were found. The first was with a swamp cooler on the roof which was emitting an odor through the vents. The second was a ballast in a janitor’s closet.

Police responded to a fire alarm at San Juan Hall. The alarm was caused by a student overcooking some food, causing smoke and activating the detector. No further action was taken.

August 19:

Police responded to a report of a group of individuals playing games which interfered with normal pedestrian usage. The group was asked to move their activity to the HPER Field, and they complied.

Police assisted Logan City officers with a suspicious incident on 600 N. 700 East. A number of individuals were advised to stop their activity. They complied and no further action was taken.

August 20:

Police responded to the area of the townhouses on a prowler report. It was reported that a white male, 5 feet 4 inches tall, with a goatee, white shirt, blue jeans and a white baseball cap, was seen wandering through the townhouses. Logan City police assisted USU police in the search for the individual.

Police responded to the Spectrum to talk to a suspicious person taking pictures. The person was an alumnus visiting campus. No further action was taken by police.

August 21:

Police responded to Jones Hall for a fire alarm. The alarm was set off by a resident using a hair dryer. The alarm was reset. No further action was taken by police.
