LETTER: Facebook shows true colors

To the editor:

The Statesman has done a great job outlining the stances of each candidate running in the ASUSU elections. After reading last week’s article there were some candidates I was absolutely positive I would cast my ballot for … until I checked them out on Facebook.

A plethora of the student community has a Facebook account, where you can network with old friends, new friends and complete strangers. Out of sheer curiosity I decided to look up each candidate to see if their “game face” was at all similar to their “behind-the-scenes” one, and the results were rather comical. From flagrant misspellings to personal photos that, quite frankly, were just plain gross, my outlook of many of my prospective choices were drastically altered. There were a few circumstances where I had been previously undecided, but seeing how they behaved in person helped tip the scale in (or out of) their favor.

Now, I know that these ASUSU elections won’t strike the nation or shake the global economy, but still, next time a candidate decides to run for office, they might want to think twice before publicly admitting how much they “like taking dumps in the early morning.”
