Students cast ballots for ASUSU positions
Only two positions, ASUSU president and HASS senator, had enough candidates running to need a primary election, and after students cast their ballots, presidential candidates Grady Brimley and Nick West will continue on to this week’s final election. Lee Cannon and Ben Pollock are the remaining candidates for HASS Senator.
Nick West received the most votes with 492, while the competition between Brimley and Bill Munns for the remaining spot on the final ballot was a matter of seven votes, receiving 442 and 435 votes, respectively. Cody Lee had the fewest number of votes, 134.
Brimley said he was humbled but excited by his primary win.
“I’m more excited than I have been all today. I’m way thankful to everyone who voted. I’m thankful to everyone who helped me too,” he said.
West said he is relieved to be in the final two because all four candidates had a solid platform and campaign.
“The name of the game now is name recognition,” West said. “The candidates that lost were good choices. Both would have a home in my presidential cabinet.”
Munns said he feels good, even after his close lost. He said the results will not stop him from being active in school activities.
“I will still be heavily involved next year,” Munns said. “We all don’t need a title to be part of the leadership at the university.”
