FRIENDS OF THE UNIVERSITY LIBRARIES LECTURE SERIES RETURNS THIS SUMMER

A series of Friends of the University Libraries lectures, beginning June 11 and continuing until July 9, will again be presented at Utah State University. The lectures are aimed toward the summer citizens visiting Logan but are open to all with no admission charge.

“The lectures give summer citizens an opportunity to become more familiar with some of the research on campus and other community programs,”said John Elsweiler, associate director for public services for the university libraries.

The four lectures, which cover a variety of topics from the community and university, are all at the same place as last summer, Rm. 046 in the basement of the Eccles Science Learning Center. The building is south of the Taggart Student Center. All lectures begin at 4 p.m. and people should arrive early due to limited seating.

On June 11 Gina Wickwar, a member of Logan‚s planning commission, will present the first lecture on Frank L. Baum and The Wizard of Oz. Wickwar was commissioned to write a book, “The Hidden Prince of Oz,” to celebrate the hundredth anniversary of Baum‚s “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.”

The schedule of lectures and speakers following Wickwar include: June 18: David

Widauf, “Re-invention of the Wright brother Plane;” June 25: John Ellsworth, “When the Fire Went Out ~ Capturing Yellowstone History on Film;” and July 9: Charles Swenson, “Weather in Space and its Effects on the International space Station.”
