It’s a modern world- do it online

Though most of you are probably up to your eyeballs in classwork and tests and were maybe just thinking you couldn’t handle one more thing to think about, we’re sorry to disappoint you. It’s time to register for next semester’s classes.

It snuck up on us. But it’s here. Now we get to pull out out major requirement sheets and call up the class schedule list on Banner to hash out a new schedule.

Figure out your favorite professors, how early you’re willing to get up, how much you can handle and whether it’s time to finish that last general requirement you’ve been putting off. Take an hour or so and figure out which requirements you’re going to fill next and then go online and sign up for them.

Here’s a hint: seniors get to sign up before juniors, who get to sign up before sophomores, who get to sign up before freshmen. This is so everyone with get the classes they need to graduate. If you wait until the end of the semester, the classes you need may be full. If you decide to not sign up for anything and ask professors to sign you in to their classes in January, you run the risk of getting shut out of a class you need.

Besides, you also could face the daunting prospect of waiting in the line that forms every semester at the Registrar’s office. This is a slow, often-clogged system. Don’t add to it.

Sign up online next week and skip all the hassle. It’s easy to change your schedule if you decide to. It’s not so easy to get into a class that’s full.

Also, don’t forget to meet with an academic advisor. Make sure you’re on track for graduation now, so during your second-to-last semester there aren’t any surprises. It just makes things easier to do things online and early.
