USU softball’s double-header Tuesday on the Brigham Young University’s Gail Miller Field brought bad news as the Aggies suffered two losses.

Utah State softball players now hold a 3-14 overall season record, having lost seven in a row while South Dakota moved to 7-16 on the year and BYU improved to 15-11.

“We just need to get out there and play real ball,” USU softball head coach Candi Letts said.

In the Aggies’ first game, the score remained 1-0 in Utah State’s favor through three innings before SDSU managed to bring two across in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead and went on to win the game.

Junior pitcher Lindsey Benson accomplished a season-high of striking out five batters in six innings, while giving up five hits.

Benson is now 3-10 overall.

Utah State had one error in the game as SDSU kept a clean slate with none.

In game two, the Aggies once again scored first as Price walked to lead off the top of the first, stole second, advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by freshman designated player Jessica Law and then scored on a single to left by freshman shortstop Kelley Kaneshiro.

In the bottom of the third, the Cougars were on fire as they scored nine runs on five hits to take the lead, 12-3.

Junior first baseman Aubrie Stroman recorded her second home run this season over the right field fence in the top of the fourth for the Aggies to cut into the Cougar lead.

Overall, the Ags suffered four errors in the game, costing them BYU runs, as the Cougars had two.

BYU scored three more runs in the home half of the fourth to pull away for the win.

The Aggies open Western Athletic Conference action with a three-game series at Reno, Nev. against Nevada this Friday and Saturday.
