Utah State student in Belgium for internship

USU senior Ryan Allen is a business development intern in Belgium for fall semester of 2006, working with

S.E.O. Advanced and four of its clients.

Allen, majoring in Spanish and minoring in international business, said he received the Obelis internship in January 2006, which made him the first intern from USU to go to Belgium for this internship.

“As the first USU student, I have helped open the door to a wonderful international internship for others to follow,” Allen said. “USU students now have another quality internship resource that allows them to do much more than observe others work, participate on special intern projects or lick stamps.”

This internship is a great opportunity for students who want to find a career in international business, said Shauna Karren, an intern counselor for the College of Business. She said that it is a paid internship with great opportunities and benefits.

While in Belgium, Allen said he has had the opportunity to help develop new businesses, but not just over the phone or through e-mails. Instead, he is not only encouraged to get involved, but he is required to actively participate.

Karren said Allen is helping companies optimize their Web sites and it’s a lot of hands-on training.

“While here at S.E.O. Advanced, I feel I have not only helped with the development of the current clients, but with the company itself,” Allen said. “I plan to use the professional experience I’m gaining now and pursue a combination of these fields as a career.”

“When I come back to USU, I will not have spent five months on vacation in Europe, but I will have helped develop my career path and will have seen some pretty cool places along the way,” Allen said. “I have enjoyed short trips to Switzerland, London, Holland and surrounding cities in Belgium. The only thing I regret about this internship is not having a few choice people along for the ride and skipping out on art history class.”
