USU women’s club rugby shuts out Boise State in 24-0 drubbing

The Utah State women’s rugby club was definitely prepared for the Boise State/Idaho State Nemesis club Saturday afternoon.

The one-sided match ended in a 24-0 shutout in favor of the Aggies.

Fullback Joslyn Airhart said she felt the Aggies’ speed advantage and overall conditioning helped the team to play strong throughout the game.

Airhart scored twice for the Ags, running past and through the opposing team’s backs.

Lauren Dreitzler and team captain Becca Ogden also contributed to the Aggies’ offense with tries of their own. Ogden also added two conversions to round out Utah State’s scoring.

Ogden mentioned she was proud of how the team worked and communicated all game.

The Aggies kept the Nemesis pinned deep in their own territory for most of the game with sound tackling and great support.

Outside center Lindsey Lovell had to come out of the game in the second half after a huge collision about 10 meters from the try zone. The Nemesis also lost their fullback due to dehydration and nausea. This left them shorthanded, so the Aggies donated the services of Whitney Warr for the remainder of the game.

Utah State led 14-0 at the half and the hole only got deeper for the Nemesis.

The Aggies wasted little time getting on the board with a try just minutes into the second half. They continued to run a controlled game plan until the final whistle blew.

The women’s club will play its final home game this Saturday against Weber State.
