Did Memphis lose or Kansas win?

You can go both ways with points for each side, but overwhelmingly Memphis lost this game. They blew it. They were up by nine with just over two minutes left and ended up losing by seven in overtime. Yeah, you can argue Kansas played good defense and hit two huge 3-pointers, including Mario Chalmers’ heave that found the bottom of the net with just more than two seconds to go in regulation. But, Chalmers and the rest of the Jayhawks would not have been in situation to tie the game had Memphis simply played smart and made some free throws. Having your two best free-throw shooters miss four out of six free throws in the final minutes in inexcusable. Memphis clearly lost.

Masters-Who will Win?

After reading a front page story about Tiger Woods’ caddie Steve Williams on ESPN.com, I almost want to say it will be Williams and not the daunted Woods who will win. It’s a pretty amazing story if you get a chance to read it. But back to the question. I have a hard time not picking Tiger. He has been so dominant this year, winning three out of the first four PGA events and finishing fifth in his last. Woods has won four times previously in the Masters and is far and away the most ready and prepared to win the tournament. I try and think of who could compete with Woods, and no one clearly stands out. Look for Woods to win.

Whats the bid deal with Matt Leinart?

This guy was a star in college, and since he has entered the NFL, we have seen him more in the news for his off-field antics rather than his abilities on the field. Lately pictures of the 25-year-old USC grad and current Arizona Cardinals quarterback have been circulating around the Internet of Leinart boozing it up and hottubbing with various girls. Matt, the reason this is a big deal is that you’re an over-observed star who is being watched at all times and is supposed to be a role model to kids. The fact that you were drinking a beer and hot tubbing isn’t a problem. Assisting a potentially underage female with a beer bong is where you went wrong.

Should Bill Self stay at Kansas?

I can’t believe we have to talk about this just days removed from Self leading his Kansas Jayhawks to an NCAA title. Can’t the guy take a break and enjoy being a champion for a while before getting bombarded with absurd questions about him leaving? I know Oklahoma State is his alma mater, but he has a sweet set up with Kansas. After winning the championship, he will likely get a contract extension and raise with the Jayhawks. Kansas is one of the most storied basketball programs in America, with resources and deep-pocketed alumni to back that up. I see no reason for Self to leave.

Rant As sports fans, lately we have been spoiled. March Madness just came to a close with a very fun championship game. In golf, the Masters tournament starts in 24 hours and we have the chance to watch the most dominate athlete of our time in Tiger Woods. We have never had a closer race for playoff seeding than we are seeing right now in the Western Conference of the NBA. On top of all of that, baseball is starting and football is in the air with spring drills for college and talk of the NFL draft. Unfortunately for us college students, this is also the busiest time of year for us, with school projects and papers due and year-end banquets. But, if you have some time, take a minute to sit back and enjoy some sports.
