USU hockey suffers first loss of the season to U of U

The Utah State Club Hockey team suffered their first loss of the year at the hands of the University of Utah. USU lost 6-2 Friday night at the George S. Eccles Ice Center in North Logan.

The Aggies were plagued by bad bounces and slow starts to each period. The University of Utah scored in the first few minutes of each period, setting the tone early. The Aggies also missed many opportunities with the puck bouncing over sticks and unlucky deflections.

But still, the Utes outplayed the Aggies all night and USU played most of the game in their zone.

Utah State starting goalie Bryce Scherschel was pulled after allowing the sixth goal and Jordan Nighttraveller came in for relief.

The Aggies were down three players in this game due to their participation in fights during Utah State’s previous game against Arizona State University. Defensemen Shaun Gibbons and Jordan Kerr, along with forward Brian Gibbons had to sit the game out. Shaun Gibbons will miss two more games.

Goal scorers for the Aggies were forwards Ian Beckstrom and Matt Hamilton. Both goals were assisted by defender Ty Johns and forward Joel Basson.
