Women’s issues appointment set

Christine Hailey, newly appointed associate vice provost for women’s issues, is working to make Utah State University a campus that is not specifically women friendly, but people and family friendly.

“It’s about being better for all people,” said Hailey. “This isn’t gender-specific. When it’s better for everyone, it is better for women, too.”

Hailey’s quarter-time position was created in conjunction with a new National Science Foundation grant, which will aid in the recruitment and retention of women in sciences and engineering. Hailey will act as a liaison between many different teams supporting the new effort, ADVANCE: Supportive Workplace Initiative.

Hailey is an associate dean in the College of Engineering and has worked for 20 years as an underrepresented minority in engineering.
