Friday was a big night for the Aggie gymnastics team as it scored a season high 195.675, beating Southern Utah University’s 194.700 at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.

The Aggies started off the night strong with sophomore Nicki Felley scoring a team-high and career-high 9.875 on the vault, bringing the team to a 48.925 score while SUU finished bars with a 48.100.

During the second rotation, the team finished with a season-high score on the bars, thanks to seniors Meagan Lewis and Ashley Barr, who finished with personal season-high scores, and Felley had yet another career high.

“I really believe the team started believing in themselves,” Head Coach Ray Corn said. “We’re getting better, we’re improving.”

After two rotations, the Aggies led the SUU Thunderbirds 97.900 to 96.825.

Two more career highs were set on the beam by freshmen Devin Markle and Heather Heinrich. Senior Jessica Parenti-Otte had a season-high 9.875, putting the Aggies ahead 146.350 to 145.850.

Even though the girls had seven combined career and season highs, they did not stop there.

Junior Megan Tschida and Lewis had almost perfect scores on the floor, each bringing in an impressive 9.900. Markle wasn’t far behind and set a career high along with Barr’s season high. With an almost flawless performance, the team finished up the meet with a season-high score of 49.325 on the floor.

All around, SUU’s Elise Wheeler placed first with a 39.300 while Parenti-Otte and Lewis tied with a score of 39.275.

Markle walked away with the Coca-Cola Outstanding Gymnast of the Meet award after setting two career highs.

Overall, the Aggies finished with eight individual season highs, five career highs, and three season-high team scores.
