OUR VIEW: You’re not stuck – students have a voice

Students often think they can’t do anything to change what goes on around campus. However, the opposite is true. Students can do more than they think. There are many different ways to get things done.

Most recently, we have seen students express their views about the Bookstore selling soda at a lower price than Food Services. Students were willing to stand up and say what they wanted.

That is why it is so important that we have a student newspaper and an open forum. No matter how trivial the matter may seem – like the Bookstore selling soda – if it is important to you, you can get it changed. But it only works if you open your mouth and let someone know.

You can take it up with ASUSU, you can write a letter to the editor in The Statesman, or you can take your problems all the way to administration. This school is for students, and it is our right to stand up for what we want and need to make USU a better place.

The purpose of having ASUSU is to give students a voice on campus. They are there to listen to your problems, and they have a help booth on the first floor of the TSC that almost always has someone available to listen.

The paper is meant to not only inform students, but give them a voice.

Administration is there to create a positive learning and living environment for students; let them know what you want.

If you make your voice heard, someone will listen and hopefully, something will change. So continue writing letters, complaining and expressing your opinions.

Someone is out there listening.
