The Utah State hockey team got the first half of their revenge Thursday night by beating the Arizona State Sun Devils 4-1 at the George S. Eccles Ice Center in North Logan.

Arizona State was the only team to beat USU in the regular season last year, and the Aggies had been thinking about this game for a while.

Ty Johns opened up the scoring in the first period with a power-play goal from the point that made it through the traffic in front of the net.

In the second period, forward Ian Beckstrom made a tremendous pass to forward Joel Basson on a two on one, and Basson blasted the puck past the goalie for a 2-0 lead and the eventual game-winner.

The Aggies played a very physical game. Arizona State had two players stay down after hits, causing the refs to take an injury timeout.

Defenseman Jordan Kerr scored the third goal for the Aggies, after the Sun Devils scored a short-handed goal on the Aggies by beating goalie Bryce Scherschel through the five hole. Forward Matt Hamilton scored a late insurance goal on the breakaway.

Basson said he thought the team took too many penalties, and the team needs to stay away from the penalty box Friday night.
