OUR VIEW: Mardi Gras a chance to beat your boredom
Howl lite. That’s what some people call Mardi Gras. That may be true, but that’s part of its appeal.
Every year USU students gather to get beads, gamble, dance and enjoy the various other things at Mardi Gras. Still others gather expecting to enjoy the night, head to the TSC and are disappointed. That’s basically their own fault.
You know going into the night what will happen. If you don’t like the activities offered, stay home and watch the History Channel. Mardi Gras will be what it has always been. A few of the acts may change slightly, but it really is essentially the same thing.
College activities are what you make of them. If you don’t like parties, it’s probably better if you stay home that night. If you think school-sponsored parties are boring then make your own. If you go and don’t participate, it’s your own fault for getting bored.
Enjoy your time at the party. Get beads – just not in the traditional way. Take a chance and start a conversation with the person next to you in line. Go prepared with a few extra dollars to buy anything that strikes your fancy. Try something that you haven’t done before. And check out all of the things ASUSU has put together to try and entertain.
It’s not a cleavage-fest like the Howl, and it might not have alcohol like your usual Saturday night bash, but it can be fun. Whatever you hear about Mardi Gras, don’t write it off just yet. Those decrying the lack of entertainment in Logan have a party put on for them. Don’t knock it ’til you try it.
