COLUMN: Keep momentum going after first week activites

Ashley Stolworthy

Congratulations. We made it through our first week of class. I hope each of you survived the first week of school, and that you are excited about the new academic year. It is so fun to be back at Utah State University and to have you back, as well. I hope you are settled in to your new residence hall or apartment, your books have been purchased and you have figured out the campus. If not, please contact me and I’ll help you out.

This year, the annual Week of Welcome (WOW) was great. I hope you felt the unity and power the student body holds as you attended activities like the Movie on the Field, bingo, Day on the Quad and USU Welcomes You. You truly are Utah State’s greatest asset and you make Utah State successful.

As you make plans for the year, I encourage you to think about Ronald E. Osborn’s words, “Unless you try to do something beyond what you have already mastered, you will never grow.” Throughout the year there will be many opportunities requiring you to “do something beyond what you have already mastered.” You will be challenged in your classes, relationships and patience as you work with roommates and professors. Remember to keep your mind open and you will grow.

There are many avenues for growth at USU, such as becoming involved with more than 220 clubs and organizations, religious groups, and sports. Take hold of these opportunities and they will help you grow and achieve great things. As you become involved, you will feel a sense of belonging and accomplishment. Get involved, make new friends and you will have an unbelievable experience at Utah State.

I am available to assist you with any questions or concerns you may have, such as finding an organization to become involved with, contacting administration or anything else. My office hours are: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 3 to 5 p.m. or by appointment. Also, stop by the Student Involvement and Leadership Office in the TSC, Room 326 for a complete listing of all registered on-campus clubs. I wish you the best of luck in your hard-earned growth this year.
