The batting was on swing, the fielding was top notch and the pitching was on the money, Utah State University club baseball coach Ernie Rivers said.

The Aggies played three solid games against Montana State University over the weekend as the Aggies posted a 3-0 record against the Bobcats.

“It was a good overall effort for the team,” Rivers said. “Everyone played well.”

The Aggies got off on the right foot, beating MSU 12-2 Friday.

The winning pitcher of that game was Greg Peterson.

Momentum carried over for Saturday’s games as the Aggies swept the Bobcats 4-2 and 12-1.

Taylor Jensen was the winning pitcher of the morning game with Sean Morrisey picking up the save. Chris Gorrel was the winning pitcher for the final game.

“Both the fielding and the pitching kept [Montana’s] scores down,” Rivers said. “Our catchers threw out five of six players who were trying to make steals.”

As for USU’s effort at the plate, the team walked away with seven home runs.

Three of those homers came from Jason Clark. Clark also had nine RBIs. Clark has hit six home runs this season.

“Clark is one of the team captains,” Rivers said. “He is a leader on and off the field.”

Jonathan Swenson was another heavy hitter for the weekend for the Aggies, Rivers said.

“Swenson had a home run, a couple of triples, a couple of doubles and a couple of singles,” Rivers said.

Mark Larsen, Rich Hansen and Jarom Bishop also homered for the Aggies against the Bobcats.

“I could list off half the team if I were to mention all the players with good hits,” Rivers said. “Everyone got to play for the most part and everyone who got in had at least one hit.

“A special congratulations goes to Pete Schem for getting his first college hit,” he said. “He has been trying so hard. He is one of those players who just loves baseball and is a whole lot of fun to be around.”

Every player did a wonderful job and winning the games was a total team effort, Rivers said.

“We have been playing well, but it was good to see it all come together for an entire game and not just four innings here and there,” Rivers said.

The team now has a conference record of 6-3.

“It was nice to see them play up to their potential,” Rivers said. “It should carry over.”

The team’s next home games will be April 12 and 13 against Boise State.
