LETTER: Every religion deserves respect

 

To the editor:

 

There seems to be a general disdain for the LDS culture among the more liberal crowd on campus. You can see the evidence when you read a popular Statesman opinion column, overhear conversations outside the Quadside Café or even on the shuttle, by that guy who feels the incessant need to broadcast his drinking and snowboarding habits, which absolutely can’t be done without gratuitously employing the F-word.  

When the line between contributing to the marketplace of ideas and openly disrespecting religious ideas and values becomes crossed, we’re stepping backward as rational, intelligent thinkers. This campus should be a harbor of respect and ideas, not a cage of grudge and hate.
