The Women’s Center at Utah State University is sponsoring the 10th annual “Plant a Pink Tulip” event in tribute to those whose lives have been touched by breast cancer. The event will be held October 11th from 10:00am -12:00 pm at the Logan River Golf Course 5th Hole (550W 1000S). Each year we plant pink tulips to honor survivors and victims of breast cancer. Please come and join for our 10th anniversary Plant a Pink Tulip Event. Please wear appropriate clothing and bring spades to help plant the tulips.

Chemistry and Biochemistry Departmental Seminar: Professor Sarbajit Banerjee, from SUNY-Buffalo, will present a seminar “Building from the ‘Bottom Up’: Towards Nanomaterial Components for the Next Generation of Electronics” on Wednesday, Oct 1 at 4 pm in ESLC 046. Hosted by Dr. Tapas Kar.

The USU Women’s Center is holding its annual Clothesline Project on October 13th and October 14th in the Taggart Students Center’s International Lounge, from 11:00 am- 8:00pm on Monday and from 9:00am-4:00pm on Tuesday. The Clothesline Project is a visual display of t-shirts designed by women who have been abused. The t-shirts bear witness to the violence against women and children and gives them an opportunity to give voice to their own personal experiences. The USU Women’s Center has been displaying these shirts for over 10 years. Shirt designing may be arranged by contacting the Women’s Center at (435) 797-1728. Confidentiality will be respected.

Call for Photographers!
Stokes Nature Center (SNC) and the Logan Canyon National Scenic Byway organization are proud to announce the Logan Canyon Photography Contest. This contest is open to all ages. Categories include wildlife, plants, water features, and geology. Photo entries will be accepted from Sept 21 through December 15th. Winners will be announced in January 2009 and prizes awarded for the top three adult and youth photographers. Prizes include a $300 gift certificate to Inkley’s and a photo printer donated by Staples. Winning photos as well as a selection of other entries go on display early in 2009. Stokes Nature Center invites curious toddlers, ages 2-3, to join us for Plant Adventures! Learn about the different parts of a plant through music, crafts, and games. This month, we’ll be learning about leaves at the Nature Center. All toddlers must have a parent pal present. Costs are $3 ($2.50 for SNC members). Run for you life.  Striding for a Healthy Lifestyle 5K Fun Run will be held on Saturday October 11th, 2008 on the USU Campus.  This race will benefit the Hurricane Victims through the Red Cross.  All profits will be donated to this organization.  Race day sign-in/registration will begin at 9 AM on the Quad with the race beginning at 10 AM.  The cost for pre-registration is $10 or $8 with a student ID, and $15 the day of the race. Registration includes a race T-shirt.
