LETTER: ASUSU here to serve students

Dear Editor,

I am writing in response to the letter of a very concerned student. I am very grateful for her valid concern in the Friday Statesmen Letters Public Forum.

I assure students my intentions and motives are pure. The position of any ASUSU Executive Council officer might look like a way to get recognition. The truth is, it is a lot of work and sacrifice. Both I have and do make with excitement and expectations of the best results for students and the university as a whole.

Each member of our current Executive Council has worked hard this year, without even a tenth of the recognition they deserve. ASUSUEC is working hard and does much more than most students realize. That is why I am so happy to respond about this issue. We understand recognition is not what is important, but where we (ASUSUEC) spend our time, attention and efforts.

I am not a perfect public speaker; the comment Brooke spoke of from the Greek Forum was meant the exact opposite then how it sounded. Because of my experience from the past two years at the capitol, when Utah State legislators see me, they know I represent students at Utah State University. I can assure Brooke and all students at USU, that when state legislators think of USU they think of student achievement, academic commitment and much more. We have a wonderful institution, amazing students, faculty and administration and they think of all of these things.

I thank our current ASUSU President Steve Palmer not only for his student- and university-based mindset, but also for his example of great leadership. He is a wonderful man, a true friend and an excellent president.

I also guarantee I will lead ASUSU and our newly-elected officers with that same student- and university-based mindset. We (ASUSUEC) are students who care about our institution, just like you. We will work hard to do all we can to better the quality of student life on campus, in the community and in the state.
