Cox named top Aggie

Roy Burton

Utah Statesman: How does it feel to be Athlete of the Week for the first time?

Travis Cox: It feels pretty good. I haven’t really thought too much about it. I try to play hard every week, but it’s definitely a good honor.

US: What has been your best experience in college football?

TC: Just getting on the field. To start my career off I sat behind Jose [Fuentes], for three years. Experiencing the big games this year has probably been my biggest thrill.

US: What do you do to stay sharp when it’s cold?

TC: Dress warm, stand by the heaters on the sidelines. I try not to think about it.

US: Do you have a favorite play?

TC: I like the intermediate routes, the 20-yard pass plays down the seams, stuff like that. That’s probably one of my better throws.

US: Your dad was your football coach at Mountain Crest. What was it like playing for him?

TC: It was a great experience. We sat down and watched film together, we studied the game, it was just fun. I loved to go to practice, I loved to play in the games, I loved everything about football in high school. It was great playing for him because he taught me so much.

US: Do you think you have a coach’s mentality because of that?

TC: Definitely. We watched hours and hours of football. I’ve been watching games since I was 5 years old. I’ve always seen football with a coach’s eyes.

US: Why did you come to Utah State?

TC: It was close to home. I felt comfortable here, I knew all about the program. I felt like it was a good place for me to come, a good school. It was easy for me.

US: What’s your role on this team?

TC: My role is to be the leader, get everyone going and try to stay positive. Just run the offense like a quarterback should.

US: Do you have a favorite NFL team?

TC: Not really. I cheer for the Rams because my good buddy Kevin [Curtis] is on the team.

US: What NFL quarterback do you admire most?

TC: Brett Favre, by far. He’s my favorite, I love watching the guy play. He plays with a good attitude that I like. He’s a get-down-and-get-dirty type of guy.
