Club baseball kicks off season, takes one from Wildcats
The goals of the Utah State baseball team is to improve in something every game, as was the case this weekend against their conference foes Weber State. After losing to the Wildcats in their first two games, USU came back and won their last game handily 7-0.
“It was good to get out there and play again. We didn’t play as well as we are capable of, but considering we have had only two practices so far, I think we did a pretty good job,” said outfielder and pitcher Ryan Doyle.
Pitcher Casey Jorgensen was lights-out during the game, recording his first complete game of the season. Confusing Weber State batters left and right, the Wildcats could never catch up with Jorgensen’s array of pitches.
Also hitting well was Dallas Larsen, Tom Frazier, and Trent McCormick who each pulled out big hits to bring in some runs. With a couple of errors from the Wildcats, the Aggies were able to coast later in the game as they knew they had it in the bag.
Coming from the sidelines, coaches were high fiving players, and people were joking and congratulating each other constantly. Everyone was involved in the game and everyone was backing each other up.
“The chemistry is real good on the team. Most of us have been playing with each other for the past two, three seasons so we all get along real well,” Doyle said.
The Aggies’ next games are Saturday starting at noon at Providence Field.
