Cartwright named top Aggie again

Julie Ann Grosshans

Utah Statesman: How does it feel to be named the Utah State Athlete of the Week and the Big West Conference Volleyball Player of the Week?

Erin Cartwright: It feels great. It’s an awesome feeling.

US: Four soccer players were named Utah State Athlete of the Week in a row, did you think it would ever be anyone else?

EC: The soccer team is just having a great season. They deserve all they get, but we are glad to get a few.

US: Why did you originally transfer from Salt Lake Community College?

EC: [I transferred] just for bigger and better playing positions.

US: What was the most important volleyball thing you learned while there?

EC: The way to interact with my teammates.

US: How does it feel to have a record-setting weekend?

EC: I actually didn’t know until I was told by the reporters and my coaches. It was a fun weekend. Everything just seemed to click. I had no idea [I was even close to breaking the records].

US: Why do you wear No. 18?

EC: That is what I was stuck with when I was 14 years old and started my club season. It’s just been with me ever since.

US: Do you prefer to do a jump serve or not?

EC: I like to jump serve, but it is hard for me to get consistent. When I am consistent I like to jump serve, but when I’m not I’ll just stay down.

US: What is your favorite book you have read?

EC: There is a series of books called “The Hearts of the Children.” I really liked those. I just got done reading them.

US: What do you think is the best restaurant in Logan?

EC: The volleyball team is a fan of Hogi Yogi and Teriyaki Stix so I’d have to say that.

US: How much would it mean to you to make it back to the NCAA Tournament being that it is your final season as an Aggie?

EC: It would be a great end of my career. We’ve even talked about being Big West [Conference] champions so I think that would be a great end, too.
