Ag lacrosse slaughtered

Falling 0-19 to No. 7 Colorado University in Logan Tuesday afternoon wasn’t the best start for the Utah State lacrosse club team.

The loss, the team’s first shutout of the season, the Aggies dropped to 1-4 early on in league play.

Playing in the rain, the Aggie men got down early behind the Buffaloes. It looked like they would turn things around, however, after back-to-back saves by goalie Dan Gasser.

But the Aggies lost the possession.

Starting the second quarter, the Aggies were trailing 0-6 and hoping to turn things around with some emotion.

But, the emotion proved to be their poison as the Aggies recorded six penalties in the second quarter to Colorado’s zero – leaving the Aggies outnumbered through much of the second quarter. The disadvantage allowed the Buffs to score seven more goals in the period.

“We need to settle down on offense so we can get good shots,” Al Garner, senior mid-fielder for the Aggies, said.

With around thirty seconds left before half-time, the Aggies had the ball and took a time-out to set up a last possession. But Colorado’s defense prevailed and the Aggies lost the ball.

Colorado picked up the ball and ran the length of the field and scored to the sound of the sidelines counting down the final seconds. Colorado took a 12-0 lead into the half.

The Aggies did get more shots off in the second half but failed to capitalize on opportunity when their opponent was undermanned because of a penalties.

The Aggies will regroup and get set for their next game against rival Fort Lewis (1-4) in Romney Stadium April 1.

Face-off is set for 7:15 and admission is free.
