LETTER: No to reading days

Editor,

We are writing in response to the proposed reading days. Concerning the comment that other schools are doing it, particularly Ivy League schools, we must remember that decisions for Utah State University need to be based on what is best for Utah State, not on what works for other schools.

Do the majority of Ivy League students work full- or part-time jobs to put themselves through school? As a young, married couple particularly, we find it difficult to be given days off school and not want to go to work.

We actively participate to elect representatives who will represent the students’ needs and desires, not people who try to make students’ opinions and desires what they want them to be. We commend ASUSU for bringing this issue to the students through a survey. If an overwhelming majority of students support reading days, by all means do what the students want.
