HASS Timepiece features art department head
HASS Hour is a monthly series offered by the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences at Utah State University. The series puts a faculty member or administrator in the spotlight to share insights, research or creative activity.
June’s featured guest is USU professor and Art Department Head Carolyn Cárdenas, who presents “Painting Anomalies: Suicide, Eggs, Gangs and 21st Century Renaissance Techniques” Thursday, June 19, at the Logan Golf and Country Club (710 N. 1500 East, Logan).
Speakers are featured in a 10-minute “TimePiece.”
HASS Hour begins with a social gathering at 5:15 p.m., and the TimePiece begins at approximately 6 p.m. Food is served during the social hour. Admission is $10 for individuals and $18 for couples.
After earning a bachelor’s degree at the University of Kansas and master’s at Drake University, both in painting, Cárdenas conducted post graduate research at the University of Arizona in Renaissance painting materials and methods. She has recently lectured and shown her work in the Midwest and South at a variety of locations, including Carnegie Mellon, Purdue, Texas Women’s University, the Cultural Center in Philadelphia and the Arkansas Art Center. Prior to joining the art department at USU, Cárdenas was the associate director of the School of Art at Ohio University, where she chaired the graduate programs. She has taught at the University of Arizona and University of Nevada, among others.
