That’s what students can look forward to in the summer if students spend an evening at Pickleville Playhouse.

T.J. Davis said the Pickleville Playhouse has been around for 30 years and had its first plays shown in the summer of 1977.

Davis, who works with the marketing and advertising at the playhouse, said it was started by LeGrande and Betty Larsen. Since then it has been a family-owned business and is currently being produced by Andrea Davis and her son T.J. Davis.

According to its Web site, picklevilleplayhouse.com, the name of the theater come from the town that used to exist by Bear Lake. Later, it was annexed into Garden City.

The theater holds 300-plus people. Next to the theater is the Pickleville Pavillion where they cook and serve the western-style cookout.

“Thoroughly Modern Millie,” and “Chuck Wagon’s Wild West Showdown” will be shown as this year’s performances. The summer running of the plays run from June 12 until Aug. 30.

Thoroughly Modern Millie, states the Web site, is a Broadway musical that won six Tony Awards, about a young woman in the 1920s who leaves her small-town life behind to chase her dreams in New York.

Chuck Wagon’s Wild West Showdown, states the Web site, is a musical melodrama about the famed Chuck Wagon and the unfortunate circumstances that befall him that issue hilarity along the way.

Davis said he recommends to get tickets reserved at least a week in advance during Raspberry Days Festival, the town’s celebration, during the second week of August.

The performers that act at the Playhouse are usually Utah State students, graduates and some high school seniors, though Davis said they are usually university students.

“I just think we try and make it fun for everyone,” Davis said.
