Utah Statesman: How long have you been here?

Ariel Nunez Garcia: Seven months; since August.

US: How many people are in your family?

AG: One brother, my dad and my mother.

US: How did you choose Utah State, of all places, to study?

AG: I didn’t know that Utah existed. I got a scholarship from my country. They have 144 Dominicans here. The government and this university have a program and I applied.

US: What is your favorite kind of food?

AG: Before coming here it was pizza. But now it is rice and beans and chicken. The rice is a different style.

US: Who is your personal hero and why?

AG: My Mother. Because she has always been there for me. She’s always protecting us.

US: If you had a superpower, what would it be and what would you do with it?

AG: Have you seen Jumper? (Teleportation) So I could go from home to here. So I wouldn’t have to walk to classes. If I want to go to Europe I could. I like the movie by the way.

US: What is one of your favorite movies?

AG: The Lord of the Rings.

US: What is your favorite thing to do on campus?

AG: Outdoor activities. Ride my bike.

US: What is your favorite Disney movie?

AG: Hercules.

US: What is your favorite thing to do on the weekend?

AG: See a movie.

US: Did you know English before coming and how hard was it to learn?

AG: I knew some but not enough to go directly to my major classes. So at the beginning it was a little bit hard because I didn’t know anything. I started learning at 13-years-old but it would have been easier for me if I started at 5-years-old, because if you are younger it’s easier. At the beginning it was a little bit hard but Spanish and English have similar words so it’s easier for me.

US: What is your favorite sport?

AG: Chess.

US: What do you plan to do once you finish school?

AG: Work.

US: What is your favorite book?

AG: 100 Años de Solo. La Mañosa. Les Miserables.
