LETTER: Vote no on ASUSU proposal
Editor,
After reviewing the ASUSU restructure bill, I’ve come to the conclusion that the amendment streamlines government at the terrible cost of eliminating voices. In the past, 19 people were able to vote on what matters to students; now only nine can. Yes, the amendment would help legislation move along faster. But I would rather have legislation that takes many viewpoints into consideration than legislation that passes quickly. Really, I don’t think it’s that hard to get 19 people to compromise and work toward a common goal. If ASUSU is having problems, they should consider more efficient methods of running meetings or do a better job at building consensus. In the meanwhile, I urge all students to vote “no” on the proposed amendment so that ASUSU can be truly representative.
