Utah State women’s tennis wrapped up their regular season Friday, suffering a 7-0 defeat by the hands of the Montana State Bobcats.

The loss was the Aggies’ fifth defeat over their last six matches, dropping their final regular season record to 7-14.

Montana State’s Allison Fey and Ali Griffin defeated Utah State’s Brianna Harris and Hailey Swenson by a final of 8-3 in No. 1 doubles to open Friday’s match. The result was the same in the No. 2 doubles match-up, where MSU’s Stephanie Jasper and Laura Villegas beat USU’s Britney Watts and Taylor Perry by the same score of 8-3. In No. 3 doubles, the Bobcats’ duo of Nuria Hernandez and McKenzie Hilmer cruised to a victory of 8-0 over Marie Livingston and Jennifer Johnson.

Singles play opened up with USU’s Harris dropping her first set to MSU’s Jasper 6-1 in No. 1 singles. Harris battled back in the second set against Jasper before falling short of extending the match to a third set, losing 7-5 to give Jasper the straight-set victory.

Swenson had a similar outcome for the Aggies in No. 2 singles. She battled before suffering a narrow defeat of 7-5 against the Bobcats’ Hernandez in the first set of their match-up. Hernandez then took control, finishing off Swenson 6-2 in the second set.

In other singles match-ups, MSU’s Villegas defeated USU’s Watts 6-4, 6-0 in No. 3 singles. The Bobcats’ Griffin defeated USU’s Perry in No. 4 singles by a final of 6-1, 6-2, while MSU’s Remy Clark cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 victory over the Aggies’ Livingston in No. 5 singles. In No. 6 singles, Hilmer of MSU defeated USU’s Johnson 6-0, 6-4 to complete the Bobcats’ sweep over the Aggies.

The Aggies will now head to Las Cruces, N.M., to compete in the Western Athletic Conference tournament, with play beginning Wednesday.
