Gardner Village to host photo contest

The first Gardner Village Amateur Photography Contest will be held March 1 through May 2. Amateur photographers ages 12 and older are invited to participate.

All photos must be taken at Gardner Village and reflect one of six categories: history, buildings, people, nature and digital or the 12 to 18-year-old division. Entry is free.

Jazz guitarists are guests at USU

Two guest jazz guitarists will perform at Utah State University on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the Morgan Theatre of the Chase Fine Arts Center.

Tickets are available at the door. General admission tickets are $5 and students with ID are admitted free.

Joe Diorio and Sid Jacobs are well known individually in jazz circles.

Mike Christiansen, head of the university’s guitar program, said, “Both are well up the reputation ladder. They have amazing solo careers. To have them perform together is a rare treat.

Christiansen said both guitarists have backed up the who’s who in jazz and have impressive solo careers.

In addition to the concert, Diorio and Jacobs will present workshops as well. Workshops are scheduled March 5 and 7, and anyone interested should call Christiansen at 797-3011.

Peace rally to be held

The Utah State University College Democrats and other organizations will hold a peace march Wednesday at noon on the Taggart Student Center patio.

A student and a keynote speaker will be featured, addressing topics against war in Iraq. All students are invited to attend.

Election ballots open until Thursday

Utah State University students can vote for the Associated Students of USU Executive Council until Thursday at 3 p.m.

Students can vote online through the A-station Web site or a link on the WebMail homepage.

The winners will be announced at 5 p.m. in the Taggart Student Center Sunburst Lounge.

The candidates will be available at the LDSSA Forum Lunch for the Bunch on Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Institute Cultural Hall.

Students can also talk to the candidates at the final reception Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Sunburst Lounge.

Students are encouraged to vote.

Public Relations VP Camey Hatch said on Friday she encourages students to vote because every vote counts, as evidenced by the close races in the primary elections

last week.

Guest lectures at USU on Friday

Del Ratsch, professor of philosophy at Calvin College, will present a guest lecture at Utah State University on Friday at 2:30 p.m. in Old Main, Room 225 on the relation between Christian creationism and science.

The lecture is sponsored by the department of languages and philosophy at USU. The title of Ratsch’s lecture is “Did God (or someone) Design It All? What Science is Permitted to Think About.” The lecture is free and open to the public.

Ratsch’s lecture is supported by a grant from the Center for Theology and Natural Science, interim department head Charlie Huenemann said.

“We invite members of the campus and Cache Valley community to attend,” he said.

Ratsch is the author of several books on the relation between Christian creationism and science, Huenemann said.
