Community supports Aggies by going blue
This year Logan businesses showed their Aggie pride by wearing blue to work on Friday, Oct. 24 during homecoming week.
Wallace Odd, Executive Director of the Alumni Center, said that homecoming is for the whole community. He said this year they tried to get more Logan city businesses involved. He said around 40 businesses in Logan allowed their store windows to be painted and many of those also participated in the “Wear Aggie Blue to Work Day”.
Odd said any of the businesses in Logan could participate in the wearing aggie blue to work event and the winners would win small prizes. The Alumni House provided their own secret judges who randomly chose the winners throughout the entire day Friday. He said the companies with the “bluest” employees would win.
Odd said, “I think it’s important for everyone in Logan to wear blue on game days because it shows loyalty to their team and to their school. I’ve traveled a lot and I’ve seen a lot of other universities. Wearing school colors is a tradition and when you walk into that stadium and you see the blue and white everywhere, it’s overwhelming. I just encourage everyone to wear blue every game day, because it shows you support your team and it shows that you are loyal to them.”
Odd said school officials first decided on the color blue for USU in1901. He said this year many more businesses got involved with homecoming than other years. He said the theme for homecoming this year was, “United by Traditions: Once an Aggie, Always an Aggie.” He said the main goal was to bring students and the community together in a celebration of being blue. He said there were many ways in which the community got involved homecoming week such as the ribbon-cutting event, the Sweet Traditions event, window painting and the pumpkin walk where students painted pumpkins to promote the homecoming theme.
Danielle Johnson, community member and alumni of USU said, “I love that the community has gotten more involved with homecoming this year. I think it’s so important for all of us to support USU as community members and I hope that each year we can just get more and more involved.”
