LETTER: Victims become survivors

I need to respond to a letter that was written about the basketball player and thank the people who have written positive things about this person. I was left uneasy by one of the first comments made by a young man. I do not think he realizes that abuse victims do not stay victims forever. They become survivors.

Yes, abuse in this country is terrible, but people who are abused go on with their life. I should know, because I am among the rank of survivors. I do not constantly think that my life is ruined because of my abuser, I think that I am stronger person because of what I had to go through. Although, it took a lot of healing time for me to forgive my abuser, it happened.

Also, I think people need to take a good hard look at their own life. You may find that when you are pointing a finger at someone, you have three more pointing back at you. One will often notice that they are your own fingers.
