With a pair of off-weeks before its first regional conference tournament, the Utah State men’s club volleyball team organized a tournament held in the HPER Saturday.

Teams participating were the USU A and B teams, an unnamed team consisting of local players, and a team each from Utah Valley State College and Weber State University.

“[The tournament] was just thrown together,” A team captain Adam Longmore said.

The USU A team finished 3-1, defeating Weber 2-0, USU B 2-1, the local team 2-0, while dropping a 1-2 match to UVSC. USU B defeated Weber 2-0, but lost to UVSC 1-2, USU A 1-2, and the local team 0-2, to finish 1-3 on the day.

Longmore said the Aggies are having difficulty getting space to practice so holding a tournament was a good way to get some court time.

He said the team has nearly reached its peak, but needs the practice time to stay sharp and work on team cohesion.

“We need the touches to stay where we are at,” Longmore said.

Both the A and B teams will be traveling to Colorado to play in a tournament hosted by the Air Force Academy, Feb 22 and 23. The tournament is part of the Mountain West Volleyball Conference in which the Aggies compete.

Longmore said he expects the Aggies to do well and it will be a good chance to compete against teams they haven’t seen before.

“We’re ready physically and are there talent-wise,” Longmore said. “What will be critical is the mental stuff.”
