Many in the campus community are aware of the strange turn of events leading to recent cancellation of the Banff Mountain Film Festival. The irresponsibility of several individuals and an administration’s unwillingness to compromise resulted in lost funding for the Outdoor Recreation Center, a cut in the Lyon Maas and Mueggler scholarship fund, and, above all, a great cultural opportunity which is offered to the community only once a year. In light of all this, however, I would like to express appreciation for the community here in Cache Valley. While would-be Banff goers had every right to express their discontent with the situation, their reactions have been quite to the contrary. The ORC has received many gracious calls and offers as well as several generous donations. In fact, because of the wonderful outdoor community in the valley, a door has been opened for a second chance at raising money for the Lyon Maas and Mueggler scholarship. Thanks to everyone that has offered help or kindness, it is greatly appreciated.
