Memorial to be held for library staffer

The campus community lost a colleague Feb. 18 with the death of Richard Brian Schockmel.

The memorial is Friday at 2 p.m. in the Eccles Conference Center Auditorium. All are invited, according to a press release.

Schockmel joined the library staff in 1973 as a program administrator. He became an assistant librarian with faculty status in 1983 and was the associate director for collection development. His wife, Kathy, is the manager of the art and music collection for University Libraries, according to the release.

“University Libraries is paying tribute to Richard Schockmel’s contributions to the libraries and to the university community,” said John Elsweiler, associate director of public services for University Libraries. “The campus community is invited to join the Libraries staff in honoring Richard at a memorial service.”

In Schockmel’s obituary announcement, his family suggests making a donation to USU Libraries in lieu of flowers.
