Utah Statesman: Why did you choose Utah State University?

Courtney Millecam: I originally applied to come here when I was still in high school but then I came up here for a tour and I felt the place was just too big for me. Instead I went to Snow College for a year and a half and then after I had gotten used to a small college I felt like it was time to try here again.

US: What’s you’re favorite thing about USU?

Millecam: All of the activities. It’s really nice, especially when you’re a poor college student to have so much available to do for free. I mean all the free movies, like “Napoleon Dynamite” and “Spiderman 2,” or the free barbecues and pizza parties at the first of the semesters. In Aggie Village, where I live, they have free yoga and other activities like salsa dancing.

US: What’s your least favorite thing?

Millecam: About USU? I don’t know that I have a least favorite about the school, I really like it here. Probably parking, but that’s a small thing compared to how much I like the school.

US: What are some of your hobbies?

Millecam: I like to do stuff outside like go hiking or mountain biking. I’m an English major so of course I like reading. Then there’s homework which I know isn’t really a hobby but I spend enough time doing it that I should consider it one.

US: Describe yourself in five words.

Millecam: Easy-going, spontaneous, a little adventurous and friendly.

US: What’s your motto/ philosophy in life?

Millecam: I take a lesson from Bob Ross, the painter from TV, there are no mistakes, only happy accidents.

US: What’s the funniest thing you’ve ever seen on campus?

Millecam: Let me think. Well there was this one really inappropriate snow sculpture I saw this one time. I won’t go into detail because really bad but it was funny.

US: Who’s the most famous person that you’ve ever met?

Millecam: Matt Lauer from NBC’s Today Show. We were taking a tour of NBC studios and we were getting on an elevator and he was getting off. He just introduced himself and said he hoped we enjoyed the tour.

US: Pretend you’ve got one round trip in a time machine, where and when would you go?

Millecam: To the 50’s in suburban New England. I don’t know why but based on shows like “The Wonder Years,” it seems like such a happy time. I’d like to go find out if it was really that nice.

US: Where do you see yourself in five years?

Millecam: Hopefully teaching in a high school. Preferably here in Logan or some place like it.US: What is your dream job?

Millecam: A high school principal. My mother-in-law is a grade school principal and she has so many experience in high school administration and she has so many stories that it just sounds like so much fun. She has people stop her in the grocery store all the time to reminisce and talk about how she inspired them.

US: What’s the worst job that you have ever had?

Millecam: I made pizza at Pier 49 and I hated it. I was always getting yelled at for letting the pizza’s fall on the ground when I wasn’t paying attention.

US: What’s the best class you’ve ever taken here at USU?

Millecam: My multicultural literature class. I just liked being exposed to different writers that I hadn’t been exposed to before. It gave me an idea of what I want to teach my students some day.

US: As a future English teacher, what are three books I should read?

Millecam: “To kill a Mockingbird” “Jane Eyre” and all of the “Harry Potter” series. I love “Harry Potter,” I’ve already got a reserved copy of the next one.

US: What’s a pet peeve of yours?

Millecam: When my husband, or anyone else, for that matter, puts something in the microwave and then they take it out before it’s done and they don’t reset the timer so that I can’t tell what time it is. One day I thought is was 2:30 until 4.

US: If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be?

Millecam: A little less talk and a little more action, especially on environmental issues. I saw a sign today saying to cut emissions and no one did.

US: What would you change about yourself?

Millecam: Some people think that I’m rude because I’m really forward and people often take it the wrong way. I don’t mean to be rude so I’d like to have a little more tact.

US: Based on your personality, what animal are you most like?

Millecam: I was told once that I was most like a dolphin because the they travel in groups and I’m really social. And I talk a lot like a dolphin.US: What would you like people to remember you for?

Millecam: Since I going to be an educator ,I hope that people will remember me for making a difference in either their life or the lives of their children. That’s why I chose education so I could expose kids to new things and challenge them in new ways.-steveshinney@cc.usu.edu
