Aggie Volleyball Announces Junior College Signing

Utah State volleyball head coach Grayson DuBose announced Friday that Jocelyn Ostermiller has signed to play with the Aggies this fall.

“We are excited to have Jocelyn join our team this fall,” DuBose said.  “She brings talent and experience to the middle blocker position from having played for an extremely successful program at Western Wyoming for coach Rick Reynolds the last two years.”

Ostermiller, a 6-2 middle blocker from of Rexburg, Idaho (Sugar-Salem High School), is coming to USU after two seasons at Western Wyoming Community College, where she helped the Mustangs to a 39-3 record and a runner-up finish at the 2011 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Championships after finishing third in 2010.  In her two-year career at Western Wyoming, she helped the Mustangs to a 79-9 two-year record, including 28-0 in region play winning back-to-back region titles.  Ostermiller was named to the 2011 NJCAA Region IX all-Tournament team.

Ostermiller averaged 0.81 blocks per set for her WWCC career, including leading the Mustangs with 0.85 bps in 2011 with a team-leading total of 111 total blocks (21 solo, 90 block assists), finishing her career with 132 total blocks (29 solo, 103 block assists).  She added 1.88 kills per set in 2011 with 244 total kills, ending with a career 1.77 kps average with 286 total kills.

Off the court, Ostermiller was an academic all-conference and all-region honoree as well as earning NJCAA Superior Academic Achievement and Exemplary Academic Achievement awards.

At Suger-Salem HS, Ostermiller led the Diggers to the 2007 and 2008 Idaho State Championships, before a fourth-place finish in 2009.  She earned first-team Post Register all-area and first-team all-conference honors.  Ostermiller also played basketball at SSHS, helping them to the 2009 state title after a placing third in 2008.  She was a two-time honor roll selection as well as a high honor roll selection, and was also the senior class vice president.  Ostermiller played club volleyball for the Bonneville Volleyball Club 18’s Team.

Ostermiller intends on majoring in social work at USU.  She is the daughter of Jared and Tammy Ostermiller, and has four siblings.

Utah State has five returning starters and eight letterwinners from last year’s team that went 12-17 overall and finished in a tie for fourth-place in the WAC with a 7-7 league record, led by senior opposite side hitter Shay Sorensen who earned second-team all-WAC honors as a junior and sophomore setter Paige Neves who was named to the WAC’s all-freshman team in 2011. Other starters returning for the Aggies include senior outside hitter Josselyn White, sophomore libero Ashlan Rogers and sophomore middle blocker Kaitlyn VanHoff.

USU volleyball opens the 2012 season by hosting the Utah State Invitational, sponsored by Gossner Foods, on Aug. 24-25, welcoming in-state foes Utah, Southern Utah and Weber State, along with Portland.
