Don’t forget to RSVP for commencement
For some of us, we are down to the home stretch, approaching the light at the end of the preverbial tunnel, near the finish line (well, you get the point). That’s right, only five more weeks of class and then those lucky few who are graduating in December will be set loose upon the world. And, not only will this season’s grads miss the lovely winter weather Logan is oh so famous for, but December’s commencement will feature fewer graduates. Which means, yes, no dreading a longer, possibly dull, ceremony that would, for most May graduates, extend for multiple hours of your life.
A few weeks ago, the Registrar’s Office sent out an e-mail indicating December grads need to RSVP by Nov. 18 if they would like to attend this year’s commencement. Now, a few of you lucky grads may be undecided about whether or not you would like to walk. No worries, we are here to help you with this oh so familiar conundrum – high tail it out of here or stay for one last hoorah?
Stay. Commencement is, for most, a once in a lifetime event that parents, siblings and friends have the opportunity to share with you. Graduation is not only the light at the end of the tunnel, but it is a huge accomplishment in our lives that we should celebrate. And often it’s the best way to thank those you have helped you get to this point. Let’s face it, you didn’t get here on your own.
Graduation marks, for many of us, the completion of school. It is another crossroads in our lives where we choose to either face reality and find a job or head on into the challenge (yet comfortable setting) of grad school – both options have their advantages.
Despite those dreams of landing a job on beach-front property and leaving your fellow peers to suffer frost bite in Logan, we would like to encourage you to leave your bags packed for a little while longer and attend December Commencement.
