Anonymous donor funds new pavillion

After working around what he calls a terribly inadequate teaching and judging pavilion for the past 10 to 15 years, Dale Zobell, assistant professor in the Animal, Dairy and Veterinary Sciences department, is looking forward to the construction of a new Animal Science Teaching Pavilion at the South Animal Science Farm in Wellsville.

“It’s long overdue,” Zobell said. “The [current] pavilion is old and decrepit, and it’s time for a new one.”

The funding for this building, which is estimated to be about $300,000, has been donated by someone who wishes to remain anonymous.

“I had an acquaintance that I was able to approach who consented to donate funds for the entire structure,” Zobell said.

Zobell said the current pavilion is “terribly inadequate and, in fact, is in disrepair. For all intents and purposes it should not be used.”

The new pavilion will be approximately 15,000 square feet. It will include classrooms as well as a judging and teaching arena.

“Seven courses [that are taught at USU] will benefit from this pavilion as well as the state FHA and 4H judging,” Zobell said. “It will benefit the entire valley and even the state.

The youth of the state will benefit as well as students of Utah State University and others who might wish to use [the pavilion],” he said.

Plans for the pavilion are presently going through Campus Planning to meet the various state codes and regulations.

Zobell anticipates construction of the pavilion will take four to five months beyond that.

He said he’s hoping everything will be completed by late fall.
