COLUMN: Blue Crew – Show Aggie pride with Game Day shirts
Maybe some of you have wanted to be involved with something here on campus but you just haven’t found time or felt like it would take too much money, energy or dedication.
Well, here’s your chance to be on a team and even get playing time.
The Blue Crew and I are working to implement a new idea here on campus called “Game Day.”
Game Day will occur every Thursday and Saturday during basketball season to help build school pride and spirit.
To join the Game Day action, all you have to do is pick up a Game Day shirt for only $5 (the cost of a burger and fries) and wear it all day.
If students can’t afford $5, then any blue Utah State shirt will work, though the concept we are trying to adopt is the team mentality and it is hard to look like a team if we all have on different uniforms.
I have worked very hard to keep the price low so that everybody can get involved. We really feel that, as the players on any team or organization are one, we can also be one team in the stands, in the hallways and at work.
We hope this will add and build upon the things we have in common and disperse our individual differences. Already Wells Fargo, Chilli’s, Village Inn, Mooch’s, Mc Donald’s, Home Depot, Fire House, Alert Wireless and Wal-Mart (the list is growing daily) have begun to buy the shirts and adopt this mentality among their employees. You can even get a 10 percent discount by having the shirt on during game days in some businesses.
T-shirts can be picked up for only $5 with a USU ID at Mr. Macs, Tenaka’s, the USU Card and Ticket Office, or just let them know you are a faculty or staff for Utah State and get the student price.
Our fans are just as intimidating as North Carolina’s and Duke’s, now it is time we step up to their level and have our own shirt putting USU on the map.
Who knows, maybe if we all start adopting this idea, teachers will be more lenient and try to plan the more challenging work earlier in the week so we can all enjoy a better weekend.
