USU dealing with cancellations

As events all over the nation were scratched, some cancellations were made on the Utah State University campus that involve faculty and students, alike.

The events affected include an alumni social in the Federal Emergency Management Agency presentation in the journalism and communication department and the Hansen Symposium in the biochemistry and chemistry department.

The physics department has also been affected, as three of the students from it were stuck in Florida. The students were working on a project at the Kennedy Space Center.

“When the tragedy struck, Kennedy Space Center was shut down,” said Sharon Jensen, an administrative assistant in the department.

The students were expected to return this weekend.

As for the events, most of them will be held at a later date.

Cory LaBiana, the speaker from FEMA, will “probably come later in the semester,” said Rhonda Hill, senior secretary in the journalism and communications department.

She flew into Denver, Colo., and was going to drive to Utah. As she was driving, she was asked to return to work in a FEMA disaster center. This is the first time all the disaster centers have been opened.

Hill said, everyone understood why she could not come and hoped she could reschedule.
